MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team fell on the road to Chowan University Saturday afternoon by a score of 21-16. The loss closed out the 2019 season for the Bobcats and moved their overall record to 4-10 overall and 0-7 within conference action.
There wasn't a ton of separation between the Bobcats and Hawks for most of Saturday's contest. Both Lees-McRae and Chowan had turns with the lead on a few different occasions. Additionally, the score was tied at eight different points. The turning point in the game seemed to occur after a man-up goal by Ryan Beauchamp at the 6:14 mark of the fourth quarter. After that point, the Hawks netted five of the next seven goals to pull away from Lees-McRae and win the tilt, 21-16.
The top offensive performances for the Bobcats Saturday came from a trio of underclassmen. Jackson Galloway (4g, 1a) and Craig Barr (1g, 4a) each had five points to lead the team, while Ethan Knight (3g, 1a) wasn't far behind with four points. Alec Molander (2g), Jonathan Barry (2g), Matt Clary) (g) and Landon Barrow (2g) were the other goal scorers for Lees-McRae on Saturday.
Freshman Jack Cruz ended up getting tagged for the loss Saturday after playing 28:30 in net. Cruz made six saves in the contest. Fellow freshman Rob Mendez played the second half and also stopped six shots.
