The Lees-McRae College Bobcats soccer team defeated Mount Olive College Trojans 2-0 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Tate Field. The game was part of Lees-McRae's homecoming weekend, the win improving the Bobcats to 7-5-2 (4-2-1 CVAC).
In a chippy affair that saw a total of 36 fouls called, the teams battled to a scoreless first half with the visitors out shooting the home side 5-4. The Bobcats came out hungry in the second half with Matt Lacey scoring his eighth goal of the season off of a cross from Kyle McGimsey (pictured) in the 46th minute. McGimsey then put his third goal of the year past Trojans goal keeper Chase Smith just three minutes later after receiving a pass from Alex Turnello. McGimsey set up at the top of the 18 yard box and made no mistake to give the Bobcats the quick 2-0 lead, and score the game's final goal.
As the team's continued to battle, the game's final ten minutes saw three players booked. The Bobcats Nate Wall and the Trojans Adam Caston received yellow cards in the 80th and 85th minutes respectively, while Chris Jasso of the Trojans was assessed a red card in the 90th minute.
The Bobcats will have a week off before heading to Erskine College in CVAC action next Saturday.
