Berin Boracic' twelfth goal of the year got the Lees-McRae College Bobcats out front with a 1-0 lead over defending Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference champion Belmont Abbey, but the powerful Crusaders came back with three straight for 3-1 win. The loss drops the Bobcats to 7-6-3, (2-5-2 CVAC).
Boracic (pictured) scored in the 24th minute after receiving a pass at the top of the 18 yard box from Diego Cordiero to give the Bobcats the lead. Thirteen minutes later, Abbey answered back with a goal from CVAC leading scorer Luis Arrieta to send the teams into halftime tied at one.
Nick Wyatt gave the Crusaders the lead in the 51st minute. Arrieta managed to get behind the Bobcat defense and was pulled down from behind in the box. The penalty kick awarded was taken by Wyatt who buried his third goal of the year. All three of Wyatt's tallies this year have been penalty kicks.
Arrieta added the finishing touches on the scoring with exactly 20 minutes left, as he got free down the left side, sidestepped one defender and ripped a shot past goalkeeper Sean Paradise for his 18th goal of the year.
The Abbey out shot the Bobcats 12-6 as Arrieta finished with six. Lees-McRae was carded six times, including two red cards.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season with a game at Barton College.
