Three members of the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team were honored Friday evening at the Carolinas-Virginia Athetic banquet, being named to the All CVAC team for their play this past season. The Bobcats season ended with an 8-7-3 record after they fell to Limestone College in CVAC quarterfinal action.
Bobcats leading scorer Berin Boracic, (pictured left), was named First Team All CVAC after finishing the season with 15 goals and 5 assist for 35 points to finish second in the CVAC. The sophomore forward from Orlando, FL was named Player of the Week once during the season and led the CVAC in points per game. Boracic' totals also placed him second in goals and goals per game.
Red shirt freshman Matt Lacey, (pictured bottom left), was named to the All CVAC second team for his consistent play in the Bobcats midfield. A native of Bury St. Edmunds, England, Lacey finished the season as the Bobcats second leading scorer with 9 goals and 2 assists for 20 points. Lacey's totals earned him sixth place on the CVAC goal scoring charts as well as eighth place in total points.
On defense, the Bobcats placed sophomore Jonny Bownes, (pictured bottom right) on the All CVAC team with Honorable Mention recognition. Bownes played strong, tough defense each and every game for the Bobcats, most often marking the opposition's top offensive threat. The Worksop, England native added a goal midway through the season, but is clearly respected amongst coaches and players throughout the CVAC as a hard nosed defender on the back line.
"I'm very proud of the boys, and happy for them to receive some individual recognition for their play this season," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley.
