A pair of Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's soccer players were recently rewarded for their play this season, as team captain Matt Lacey and Berin Boracic were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All Region Team.
Lacey, (pictured top left) earns NSCAA All Region Second Team in just his first season of collegiate play, after redshirting his first year at Lees-McRae. Also named to Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference's Second Team, the sophomore from Bury St. Edmunds, England started all but one of the eighteen games he played this season as the Bobcats center midfielder. Lacey's 20 points off nine goals and two assists trailed only Boracic for the team lead in points. The Bobcats went 6-1 this year when Lacey scores, with three game winning goals, twice against CVAC opponents late in the season while teams jostled for playoff positioning.
Boracic, (pictured bottom left) was the team leader in points and goals scoring with 34 points, (15G, 4A) and started 16 of 17 games at forward for the Bobcats. Boracic finished the year ranked second in the CVAC in goals scored, goals per game, points and points per game. Along with the NSCAA All Region Second Team honor, the Orlando, FL native was named to the All CVAC First Team, and the Daktronics All Region Second Team.
The 2006 Bobcats were a youthful bunch, the majority of the team comprised of freshman and sophomores. With Lacey and Boracic leading the way, the Bobcats finished the season 8-7-3, falling to CVAC Finalist Limestone College in the first round of the CVAC Tournament. All but one player, (graduated senior Matt Debnam), is eligible to return to the Bobcats line up in 2007.
