The Lees-McRae College Men's soccer team hosted their Alumni game this past Saturday March 24th. The game was played at Lees-McRae College on the practice fields and there was a good turnout of both fans and former Bobcat players for the occasion.

Head Coach Chris Whalley and Assistant coach Calvin Dixon have been working hard over the last few months trying to get updated phone numbers and addresses for all the Alumni soccer players. The hard work paid off as the soccer office now has upwards of 140 new updated Alumni addresses. At one point there looked to be a huge turnout but many Alumni had to drop out at the last minute leaving the Alumni with just about 11 players

The game itself was not as close as last year as the alumni went down 1-0 within the first 15 minutes of play. After this the alumni were always fighting an uphill battle with no substitutes. However the alumni fought hard for the remainder of the half and went into halftime only 1-0 down.

After halftime Assistant coach Calvin Dixon moved to striker after he had been playing center half. The alumni fought hard again at the start of the second half without really creating many chances and with Goalkeeper Dylan Lawrence keeping them in the game making save after save. Finally the hard work paid off and the alumni caught a break as the coaching staff combined for the goal.

Head Coach Chris Whalley put in a sliding tackle on the edge of the box that kindly bounced for assistant coach Calvin Dixon. Dixon took his first touch into the box and hit a left footed strike into the back of the net to send the alumni into raptures. The celebration that followed was far more elaborate then the goal deserved as Dixon took off his shirt and tackled the corner flag!

With David Bashara '89 working tirelessly in the midfield and Caracciolo up front the alumni looked like they might have a new wind and go on to win the game.

However the new wind was soon knocked out of the alumni as the current squad notched two more goals with no answer from the alumni to end the game with the alumni losing 3-1.
