Bobcats Continue to Roll
Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats men's soccer team continued its winning ways, improving to 5-0-1, (1-0 Conference Carolinas) with a win over Erskine College in the conference opener for both squads. The Fleet fall to 1-4-1, (0-1 Conference Carolinas).
Reigning Player of the Week and Conference Carolinas leading scorer Berin Boracic (Orlando, FL) wasted little time in putting the home side on the board first, burying his eighth of the season in the fifth minute. After an Erskine defender was assessed a foul, Boracic sent the ball sailing past Fleet keeper Jimmy Turner to give the home side the early lead. Tightening up defensively to protect the lead, the Bobcats carried the one goal cushion into halftime.
The Bobcats struck early once again the second half, with goalkeeper Sean Paradise helping the cause offensively assisting on Boracic's second of the game and ninth of the season. After heavy pressure from freshman defender Logan Linton (Cocoa, FL), a misplaced Fleet cross allowed Paradise to scoop the loose ball and assess the situation in front of him. Dropping the ball to his foot, Paradise (pictured top left) sent a ball from the top of his own 18 yard box towards to the top of Erskine's box, to find Boracic streaking towards the goal. With some quick feet, Boracic managed to get a step on his defender to give the Bobcats the two goal lead and the sophomore keeper his first collegiate point.
"I am pleased with the discipline the boys played with tonight, however we need to be much more consistent," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley. "If we are to achieve our goals this season, we need to elevate our play to a higher level, and do so on a consistent basis."
Paradise finished with three saves, stopping all three Erskine shots he faced. The Bobcats registered eight shots in total, with Turner recording one save.
The Bobcats will hit the road next weekend to continue their Conference Carolinas schedule, traveling to Anderson University to face the Trojans. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
