MARS HILL, N.C. --- Junior Thomas Deeley converted a penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season, but the Lees-McRae men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Mars Hill in nonconference play Wednesday evening at Meares Stadium in Mars Hill, N.C.
The Lions (4-4) fired off 10 shots in the first half while Ben Lucas made all three of his saves in the opening 45. The Bobcats (2-7) saw Justin Brown (Charlotte, N.C.) make a pair of saves in his first collegiate start.
MHU struck first after an Oscar Mitchell goal at the 24:18 mark while Derek Kaple earned the assist.
Lucas kept his squad in front with consecutive saves in a four-second span.
Brown duplicated his opposition's success with two saves in the final 29 seconds of the first half.
Deeley (Oxford, England) tied it when he bested Lucas on a PK with 32:19 left in regulation.
Less than 10 minutes later, MHU's Ian Wu gave his team the lead following a PK of his own.
The Bobcat defense held the Lions to one shot in the second half.
