BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team unveiled its 2017 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The Bobcats, who will be under the direction of third-year Head Coach Rich Wall, are scheduled to play 17 matches this fall with seven of those contests set to be played at Tate Field.
"This time of year is always exciting, the mentality going into this season is optimistic," Wall said. "The schedule presents challenges at each fixture, the intention behind that is to prepare us for the rigors of Conference Tournament action. Last season with a young squad, and a difficult schedule, we were ready for our quarterfinal match at Erskine - which is always a tough place to play in the tournament. We've added strong opposition in the likes of Saint Leo, and Rollins to go along with the always difficult South Atlantic Conference foes. We look forward to the opportunity to play against the best that this region has to offer."
LMC will begin its 2017 campaign with back-to-back neutral site contests in Wingate, N.C. against Rollins (Aug. 31) and St. Leo (Sept. 2). After opening the season with those two matches, the Bobcats will make their regular season home debut Sept. 6 when they host Carson-Newman in non-conference action before hosting Barton on Sept. 9 in its conference opener. In the month of September, Lees-McRae will also make road trips to King (TN) (Sept. 13), Mount Olive (Sept. 16), Chowan (Sept. 23) and Lenoir-Rhyne (Sept. 27), while also hosting Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 20 and Southern Wesleyan on the final day of the month. The matchup against Southern Wesleyan will also be the Homecoming game for the Bobcats.
As LMC heads into the final month of the regular season, it will have to play three of its first four matches on the road. Lees-McRae will hit the road to take on Tusculum (Oct. 4), Limestone (Oct. 11) and Newberry (Oct. 18) during that stretch with its only appearance at home being a tilt on Oct. 7 against Belmont Abbey. The Bobcats, however, will close out the month with two of their last three matches on their home field with games against Erskine (Oct. 21) and North Greenville (Oct. 24) before making a trip to Emmanuel (GA) on Oct. 28 to close out the regular season. Additionally, the Oct. 21 matchup against Erskine will be the team's senior day.
The 2017 Conference Carolinas men's soccer tournament will begin Tuesday October 31 at campus sites with the semifinals (Nov. 3) and finals (Nov. 5) occurring at the highest remaining seed.
