HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team was selected to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas men's soccer preseason poll the league announced Wednesday. Additionally, seniors Tom Deeley and James Morgan along with junior Pol Vassart were named players to watch.

Limestone was selected to win the Conference Carolinas this fall after collecting nine of the 10 first place votes and 90 points in the poll. Southern Wesleyan was picked second followed by Erskine and then league newcomer Chowan, who picked up the 10th first place vote, rounded out the top four.

After the first four squads, the next three teams were neck-and-neck. Mount Olive and King (Tenn.) were picked tied for fifth with 54 points with Lees-McRae nipping at their heels with 53 points. Closing out the poll was Belmont Abbey with 46 points, Barton with 33 points and North Greenville with 22 points.

Deeley enters his final season as a Bobcat with several accolades to his credit. The Oxford, England native is a two-time all-conference selection along with being an All-Southeast Region selection last fall. Deeley currently is tied for 10th in program history with 24 goals and tied for the fifth-most match-winning goals in program history with six.

Morgan has played in 55 matches in his career at Lees-McRae. Morgan set a new career-high with five points (2g, 1a) in 2016 and earned All-Conference Carolinas Second Team honors for his efforts. Morgan, who was also second team all-conference as a freshman in 2014, has tallied two goals, five assists and 30 shots in his three previous seasons as a Bobcat.

As he comes into his third season with the Bobcats, Vassart has been an offensive force for the team in his first two campaigns. Overall, Vassart has scored 11 goals and added three assists for a total of 25 points in 2015 and 2016. The Arnhem, Netherlands, native also came through with some big points for Lees-McRae last season as he led the team with three match-winning goals.

Deeley, Morgan and Vassart along with the rest of the Bobcats will open the 2017 regular season on Aug. 31 with a neutral site contest against Rollins College on the campus of Wingate University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
