BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 16 minutes Saturday to help propel it to a 4-1 victory over Barton in its first conference match of the 2017 season. The win improves LMC's record to 3-0-1 on the season, which is its best four-game start to a season since 2009.

Tom Deeley got the scoring started just 2:44 into the match as he headed in a pass from Harvey McMorrow to give LMC an early 1-0 lead. McMorrow, who finished with three assists Saturday, helped set up goals from Pol Vassart and Lasse Meinert Pedersen as well to stake the Bobcats to an early 3-0 lead. Nathan Watt and Taylor Gray also tallied assists on those respective goals as well.

Barton closed the deficit to two with its lone goal of the match at 50:21 when George Venturella scored off a free kick to make it 3-1 Bobcats. However, Barton's momentum was short lived as Palle Jespersen netted his first goal of the season in the 66th minute to close out the scoring and seal LMC's third victory of the season.

Tyler Pavlet picked up his third victory in four decisions in goal for the Bobcats. Pavlet made two saves in three shots faced Saturday as his record improves to 3-0-1.

Overall, the Bobcats dominated play Saturday as they outshot Barton 15-6, including 7-2 in the second half. Lees-McRae also held the edge in corner kicks 11-8.

Next Up: The Bobcats will look to keep things rolling Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Tennessee to take on King (Tenn.) in another Conference Carolinas matchup. The start time for that match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
