HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College men's soccer player Tom Deeley was named the Conference Carolinas men's soccer player of the week Monday morning by the league office. Deeley is the first men's soccer player to earn a player of the week nod since September 9, 2014 when former Bobcat James Galvani earned the honor.
Deeley was integral part of Lees-McRae's offense last week as he paced the team with six points (2g, 2a) in two matches. Through the play of Deeley, who picked up a goal and an assist in both matches, the Bobcats picked up wins over Carson-Newman and Barton to remain unbeaten in the 2017 campaign (3-0-1). The 3-0-1 record is the program's best four-game start to a season since 2009.
"Tom has long deserved this recognition," said LMC Head Coach Rich Wall. "His ability to make a consistent impact on our matches has been a key to our success not only last week but throughout the three seasons I have been here at Lees-McRae. I am very proud of Tom and the program. This honor represents not only his play but also the collective effort of everyone around him playing at a high level as well."
The performance this week by Deeley continues a trend for the senior from Oxford, England as he currently leads the conference in both goals (5) and points (13) while being second in assists with three. Additionally, Deeley ranks in the top 10 all-time in Lees-McRae men's soccer history in all three of those categories. He is seventh with 79 points, eighth with 29 goals and tied for seventh with 21 assists.
Deeley and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take on King (TN) University in a Conference Carolinas clash. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
