Lincoln Memorial hands No. 12 Lees-McRae its first loss of 2017, 3-2

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The No. 12 Lees-McRae College men's soccer team fell for the first time this season as Lincoln Memorial defeated the Bobcats by a score of 3-2 Wednesday evening at Tate Field. The loss moves LMC's record to 5-1-1 on the season.

The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Pol Vassart netted his second goal of the season to give the Lees-McRae a quick 1-0 lead. On Vassart's goal, Agustin Xavier Ortiz picked up his first collegiate point with an assist.

After the goal by Vassart, Lincoln Memorial answered in the 43rd minute as it tied the game with a goal from Danilo da Silva which was his fifth of the season. Not long after the halftime break, the Railsplitters scored the match-deciding goal when Miguel Reis scored his first of the season to make it 2-1 LMU.

The final two goals of the contest came in the final 11 minutes of action. First, Lincoln Memorial scored its third straight goal to make it 3-1 LMU at the 79:05 mark when da Silva notched his second goal of the game. The Bobcats were able to close the deficit to 3-2 when Nathan Watt put back a cross that was punched out by LMU's goalkeeper with three minutes remaining in regulation. Watt's goal, however, was where the rally stopped as the Railsplitters held on for the narrow 3-2 victory
