HICKORY, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team and Lenoir-Rhyne University played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest in Hickory, North Carolina. The tie is the second for the Bobcats this season as their record moves to 5-2-2 with the result Wednesday.
Lenoir-Rhyne jumped ahead of Lees-McRae quickly as it scored its only goal of the match 2:26 into the contest. LMC would tie the score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute when Pol Vassart collected a pass from Nathan Watt and put it away for his third goal of the season. It marks the third straight match Vassart has scored at least one point.
The final 77 minutes of action Wednesday were competitive, but neither team could find the go-ahead goal. The Bobcats ended up outshooting Lenoir-Rhyne 21 to 10 overall, including a nine to five margin in shots on goal. Both teams played aggressively trying to gain an advantage as a total of 12 cards and 29 fouls were called in the match.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Pavlet allowed a goal on the first shot he saw but he stopped the other four shots he saw on Wednesday. Pavlet's record moves to 5-2-2 on the season with the tie.
The Bobcats will step back into Conference Carolinas play Saturday when they host Southern Wesleyan at Tate Field as a part of the school's Homecoming festivities. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
