BANNER ELK, N.C. – In perhaps its biggest match of the season to date, the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team will hit the road to take on Limestone College Wednesday with the top spot in the conference standings on the line. Kickoff between the Bobcats and Saints is set for 7:30 p.m.
Last Time Out: Lees-McRae picked up its second straight win last Saturday when it upended Belmont Abbey by a score of 2-1. The victory improved LMC's record to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 in conference matchups.
Pol providing the offense: Junior Pol Vassart has scored a goal in three of the team's last four games. Vassart is now tied for fourth in the Conference Carolinas with five goals on the season. Vassart, who has 16 goals in his Bobcat career, needs just eight more goals to move into a tie for the tenth-most goals by a player in program history.
Comfortable on the Road: Part of LMC's success this season can be traced to its play away from Banner Elk. The Bobcats are 4-1-2 in contests away from their home pitch. Comparatively, the team posted a 3-8 and 5-5 records in such contests in the past two seasons.
About the Opponent: The Saints come into Wednesday's match with a 7-2-2 record overall and a 4-0-1 mark in league matches this season. The strength of Limestone's team has been its defense. On the season, Limestone has allowed just five goals in 11 matches including just one in conference contests. Thomas Osborne, the Saints' goalkeeper, currently leads the league with a 0.47 goals against average.
Series History vs. the Opponent: The Bobcats and Saints have met a total of 29 times since 1987. LMC has fared well against Limestone over the years with a record of 21-6-2. With that being said, however, the Saints have won three straight versus Lees-McRae with the Bobcats' last win coming in the 2014 conference tournament.
