NEWBERRY, S.C. – Senior Tom Deeley scored a pair of goals to lead the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie at Newberry College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Bobcats move to 7-4-3 with the tie. The three ties are the most in a season for Lees-McRae since 2012.
As mentioned earlier, both of the goals scored by the Bobcats Wednesday were from Deeley. The first came in the 11th minute when he chipped in an unassisted marker to give LMC a 1-0 advantage. Deeley would strike again in the 34th minute when he scored on a penalty kick. With the pair of goals, Deeley moves into sole possession of sixth place on LMC's all-time goal scoring list with 33 in his career.
Just like Lees-McRae, Newberry got a two-goal outing from one of its players on Wednesday as Fabrizio Bucco netted a pair to keep his team on pace with LMC. Both of Bucco's goals were assisted by Tobias Henriksen.
Overall, Lees-McRae controlled the pace of play for the most part. LMC outshot Newberry 30-16 in total and 21-8 in shots on goal. Deeley paced the Bobcats with seven shots with Palle Jespersen and Pol Vassart not far behind with shot totals of six and five, respectively.
In goal, Tyler Pavlet made six saves to notch his third tie of the season moving his record to 7-4-3. Pavlet's six saves were the most in the match for the senior from Goodyear, Arizona since Sept. 13 when he stopped seven shots at King (Tenn.).
The Bobcats will return to Conference Carolinas action Saturday when they host Erskine College at Tate Field. The match, which will serve as the team's senior day, is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start time.
