BELMONT, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team earned a Conference Carolinas draw in a 1-1 effort at Belmont Abbey on Saturday (Oct. 13).
Game Summary - The two teams traded chances throughout the first half, before the Bobcats would draw first blood in the 27th minute. Pol Vassart would strike for his conference-leading 13th of the season from Connor Hahn to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. The two teams would trade chances all the way up to the break and LMC would take the 1-0 lead to the half. The Bobcats would use their stingy defense to keep the ball out of their end in the second half until Belmont Abbey would capitalize on a chance in the 87th minute. Geinner Duque would score from Nando Morales to send the Crusader bench into a frenzy. The match would head to overtime tied at one. No goals were scored in the first overtime period, and set the stage for the second extra session. Johannes Oeksnevad got the best chance of the second overtime period off a free kick, with the ball landing on his foot before he turned and fired. His shot was stopped by a diving Ben Knust in net for the Crusaders. The match would end as a 1-1 draw.
Stats Rundown - Belmont Abbey out-shot Lees-McRae 17-12 in the contest, including 6-2 in shots on goal. Vassart LMC with four shots, while Connor Hahn registered three. Anders Stoakes totaled two shots in the effort, and three other Bobcats each tallied one shot in the match. Anton Sundstrom (5-5-2) made five saves in the effort.
Up Next - The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 20) when they travel to Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton College. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
