WILSON, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team upended the Barton College Bulldogs 4-2 in a huge Conference Carolinas matchup on Saturday (Oct. 23).
Game Summary - The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Pol Monells took advantage of a loose ball in the box. After gaining control, Monells turned and fired and found the back of the net for his seventh of the season to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. Barton appeared to be headed to the half with a lead, before Anders Stoakes would set up Harvey McMorrow for his third of the year in the 45th minute to tie the match at one. Stoakes headed a ball across the box to an open McMorrow who stashed it home. After going to the half tied, the Bobcats wasted little time in the second half and would gain the lead for good with two quick goals. In the 52nd minute, the Bobcats would score twice in an 18-second span to distance themselves from the Bulldogs. Johannes Oeksnevad scored his fifth of the season from Mikael Saekingstad when Saekingstad crossed the ball into the box and found Oeksnevad who netted the go-ahead goal. Just 18 seconds later, Pol Vassart won a one-on-one for a loose ball in the Barton end before beating keeper Francisco Noguera for his 14th of the season. In the 57th minute, Barton would get back within one when Tolly Beatson scored his sixth of the season off a free kick to make it 3-2. The Bobcats would extend their lead further when McMorrow took control of a breakaway and streaked down the left side past the Barton defense. He beat Noguera to his right for his second of the match to make it 4-2 in the 64th minute. The Bobcats would fend off any Bulldogs offensive chances for the remainder of the match and secure the Conference Carolinas road win.
