Men's Soccer Season Ends with 3-1 Quarterfinal Loss at King (Tenn.)

BRISTOL, TENN. - The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team fell in its Conference Carolinas tournament quarterfinal at King (Tenn.) by a score of 3-1 on Monday (Oct. 29).

Game Summary - The No. 4 seeded Tornado and No. 5 seeded Bobcats (8-7-2) traded chances for most of the first half, before LMC cashed in on its best chance in the 30th minute. Harvey McMorrow lofted a near-side corner kick into the box, only to be deflected into the back of the net by Johannes Oeksnevad. The sophomore's sixth of the season put the Bobcats up 1-0, before the visitors would take their 1-0 lead to the half. The Bobcats would take their one-goal lead into the final 30 minutes, before King would score to tie the match in the 64th minute. Ben Delisle would put himself into open space when Carlos Saavedra would find him with a pass from the far side. Delisle would score his seventh of the season to tie the match at one. The match would tick down into the final 10 minutes tied, before King would score twice to put the match away. In the 82nd minute, LMC attempted to clear the ball out of its end but the attempt was failed. The ball deflected right to Delisle in space, who caught the LMC defense in a bad spot and keeper Anton Sundstrom out of the net. Delisle fired the ball low through a crowd for his second of the match and eighth of the season. Delisle would complete the hat trick and ice the match in the 86th minute when Andrew Rhoda made a move along the goal line and found Delisle on the short side. The fourth-seeded Tornado advances to the semifinals at a site and time to be determined on Thursday (Nov. 1).

Stats Rundown - King out-shot LMC 15-11 in the match, including 8-2 in shots on goal. Oeksnevad registered a team-high four shots, while Connor Hahn recorded three. Four other Bobcats tallied shots in the loss. Sundstrom (7-7-2) made five saves in the contest.
