TAMPA, Fla. - Lees-McRae College men's soccer sophomore forward Johannes Oeksnevad was recently named a Top-100 Player to Watch for the upcoming United Soccer League (USL) League Two season, announced by the league on Apr. 26.
Oeksnevad will be playing for the AHFC Royals this season, based out of Houston, Texas. He is one of only eight Division II players to be named as a Player to Watch. In 13 matches with the AHFC Royals last season, he totaled six goals and two assists. He was named to the Southern Conference Team of the Week back on May 23.
USL League Two (formerly the Premier Development League) is a professional organization within the structure of Major League Soccer (MLS), and allows players to be scouted and potentially selected in the yearly MLS Superdraft.
At Lees-McRae, Oeksnevad was a Conference Carolinas Second Team All-Conference selection as well as the Freshman of the Year in 2017-18.
"Johannes has been one of the most deserving players I've ever coached and been around," said Lees-McRae head men's soccer coach Rich Wall. "He's dedicated to his development on the pitch, and is successful because of his desire to be a team first player. This is a huge recognition for Johannes, and our program. We've had multiple players with USL2 and NPSL in recent seasons earn Team of the Week honors and such, but what those players have done is pave the way for players like Johannes to be successful. I'm excited for Johannes and know there is so much more ahead of him the next two seasons with Lees-McRae and his amateur level ventures."
