MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team played to 1-1 draw in its season-opening match at Mars Hill Thursday night.

Lees-McRae would get the scoring started in the eighth minute as Francisco Silvestre netted his first career goal to give his team the early advantage. Mars Hill would tie the score at one a piece in the 60th minute to close out the scoring in the contest.

Throughout the contest, both teams had chances to put more goals up on the board. Between Mars Hill and Lees-McRae there were a total of 43 shots taken with 15 being on goal. The duo of Johannes Oeksnevad and Agustin Ortiz paced the Bobcats in that category logging three shots a piece in the matchup.

Anton Sundstrom played well in goal for the Bobcats making eight saves in nine opportunities during his 2019 debut. The eight saves set a new career-high for a single match for the sophomore goalkeeper.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday when they pay a visit to Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff for that contest is set for 7 p.m.
