BANNER ELK, N.C. – Fresh off its first win of the season, the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team will look for its second win in a row this Saturday when it hosts Erskine College. Kickoff between the Bobcats and Flying Fleet is set for 4 p.m. from Tate Field.
Last Time Out – As mentioned earlier, Lees-McRae picked up its first win of the season in its last contest. The Bobcats shut out Southern Wesleyan, 1-0, to improve to 1-2-1 in 2019.
First goal for the freshman – Freshman Stephon Davis netted his first collegiate goal on Saturday to help give the Bobcats the victory. Furthermore, Davis ranks second on the team with 10 shots attempted behind only teammate Agustin Ortiz.
Shutout for Sundstrom – Goalkeeper Anton Sundstrom was able to shut out SWU Saturday to earn his second career shutout. Sundstrom is also one of five keepers in the league to have 20 or more saves so far in 2019.
McMorrow moving up on assist list – Harvey McMorrow picked up an assist on Davis's goal on Saturday. It was McMorrow's 23rd assist during his Bobcat career, which ties him for seventh-most on the all-time assist list in school history. McMorrow needs just six more helpers to move all the way up to second place on that list.
About Erskine – The Flying Fleet enter Saturday's matchup against the Bobcats sporting a record of 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in league action. Erskine's win came at North Greenville by a score of 3-2. In their last match, the Flying Fleet nearly upset the second-ranked team in the nation Lander but that contest ended in a 2-2 tie.
Series Rewind vs. Erskine – Lees-McRae has fared well against Erskine historically speaking. The Bobcats are 21-10-2 all-time against the Flying Fleet dating back to the first meeting back in 1992. Lees-McRae has won the last four meetings between the two schools outscoring Erskine 19-2 during that stretch.
