BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team will hit the road for a pair of matches this week. First, the Bobcats will travel to Tusculum on Wednesday before wrapping up the week with a trip to Mount Olive on Saturday. Wednesday's match will begin at 6 p.m., and Saturday's is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
Last Time Out – The Bobcats dropped a tough one to Erskine last Saturday at home as they fell to the Flying Fleet in double overtime, 3-2. Lees-McRae moved to 1-3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the result Saturday.
No shortage of chances – Even with the 1-3-1 record, the Bobcats have not had a shortage of chances this season. Lees-McRae ranks second in both shots attempted (69) and corner kicks (26) among Conference Carolinas schools.
Saves for Sundstrom – Despite being just a sophomore, Anton Sundstrom is about to enter his name into the program's record book. With just four more saves, Sundstrom will move into tenth place on the program's all-time save list. Furthermore, with just 12 more saves, Sundstrom will become just the tenth goalkeeper in program history to notch 100 or more saves in their career.
About the Opponents - When the Bobcats travel to Tusculum on Wednesday, it will mark the latter's first home match of the season. The Pioneers enter Wednesday's match with a 0-3-1 record, including a 0-0-1 mark in league play.
Mount Olive, meanwhile, enters this week's play with a record of 1-2-0 and a 0-1-0 record in league play. UMO owns a 2-0 win over Shaw but fell in its conference opener last Saturday at Emmanuel by a score of 1-0 in overtime.
Series Histories vs. Opponents – Historically, Tusculum has fared well against the Bobcats sporting a 15-8-1 record since the series began in 1989. As for Mount Olive, Lees-McRae has held the decisive edge going 21-6-2 against the Trojans since their first meeting all the way back in 1986.
