GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team picked up a key 1-0 victory on the road at Limestone College Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas action. The victory improves Lees-McRae's record on the season to 3-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference action.
Limestone controlled the bulk of the contest against the Bobcats. The Saints outshot the Bobcats 17-6 overall and 9-3 in attempts that were on goal to go along with a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Bobcats were able to net the lone goal of the match in the 28th minute. The play was setup by a Limestone foul just outside the box. Stephon Davis put good touch on a free kick and Johan Hedberg finished it off to get it past the keeper. The lone goal Wednesday provided a pair of firsts as it was the first career goal for Hedberg and the first career assist for Davis.
Anton Sundstrom matched a season-high with eight saves in goal for the Bobcats. The victory, which is Sundstrom's second shutout of the season, improved Sundstrom's record to 3-7-2 on the 2019 campaign.
The Bobcats will be back in action next Wednesday when they make the short trip over to Bristol, Tennessee to take on rival King University. Kickoff between the Tornado and Bobcats is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
