Men’s Soccer travels to top-seeded Chowan to open the Conference Carolinas Tournament

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team will travel to top-seeded Chowan University in its opening match of the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday. Kickoff between the Bobcats and Hawks is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Last Time Out - The Bobcats dropped a 1-0 decision to Belmont Abbey last Monday in their final regular season game. With the loss, Lees-McRae closes out its regular season with a record of 3-10-2 overall and 3-6-1 in conference.

Postseason Past – Lees-McRae has historically had plenty of success in the postseason. The Bobcats have won six Conference Carolinas Tournament titles since moving to the Division II ranks. The program has also made runs to the Elite Eight (2007), the Sweet 16 (2008) and the national championship match in 2009.

Streak of Appearances – When the Bobcats take the pitch on Saturday, it will mark the seventh straight conference tournament that they have appeared in. In the team's previous six appearances, Lees-McRae has managed to win at least one match in four of the six years.

About the Tournament – All four quarterfinal matches will take place on Saturday. In addition to the Chowan/Lees-McRae match, there will also be matches between #2 Belmont Abbey vs. #7 Mount Olive, #3 Barton vs. #6 Emmanuel and #4 Barton vs. #5 Limestone. The four winners will advance to the semifinal round on November 15 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

About Chowan/Series History – The Hawks enter the tournament fresh off clinching the league's regular season title last weekend. Chowan is 10-4-1 overall and 8-1-1 in conference action. Chowan is 4-2-0 all-time against the Bobcats since the first meeting back in 2007. The Hawks upended the Bobcats, 4-2, earlier this season.
