Weddell inks first two signees in the history of Lees-McRae men’s swimming

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College's Head Men's Swimming Coach Sean Weddell announced Wednesday the signing of the program's first two student-athletes in Reece Bradford (Johnson City, Tenn.) and John David McCray (Cape Carteret, N.C.).

"I am very thrilled about Reece and John David joining our inaugural program next season," remarked Weddell.  "I think it says a tremendous amount that both are willing to sign early for a team that is just getting started.  They are great students and swimmers, but even better young men.  Really looking forward to 2018!"

Reece Bradford            Johnson City, TN

  • First signee in LMC school history
  • Middle distance and distance freestyle specialist
  • Team Captain for his high school

"I chose Lees-McRae because of the head coach and the school atmosphere, in addition to their phenomenal wildlife biology program," said Bradford. "Thank you to my family, coaches and friends for supporting me. I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of the bobcat family and continue my journey at Lees-McRae College."

John David McCray          Cape Carteret, NC

  • Regional and State finalist in 200 and 500 freestyle
  • Extremely versatile
  • Team captain for his high school

"I really like the location in the mountains and when I met the coach, things just clicked," McCray said. "I feel like he knows how to get the most out of my game at the next level. It'll be cool to kind of set the basis for the new team and see it grow. "
