CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs turned in several standout performances on day two of the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships Thursday in Charlotte. Overall, there were six different All-Conference Carolinas swims put forth by the Bobcats, which can be added to the list of the many firsts for Lees-McRae during their inaugural campaign.
Standout swims – The men's and women's teams each had three all-conference swims Thursday. The duo of John David McCray (500 yard freestyle) and Arsham Mirzaei (50 yard freestyle) both finished second in their respective events, while Javier Sanchez finished third in the 200 yard individual medley.
As for the women's team, Jennifer Paul posted the best finish for Lees-McRae finishing third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.36. Teammate Elli Seabrook also finished in the top six in that event posting a time of 5:32.10. Rounding out All-Conference performances by Lees-McRae Thursday was Kayla Fleming who swam a time of 24.59 in the 50 yard freestyle that placed her fifth in the field.
Coach's take – "We had six All-Conference swims this evening," said Lees-McRae Head Coach Sean Weddell. "Our goal is 15 so we are well on our way. We had several personal-bests as well. All of our swims were good and I am looking forward to the next two days."
Next up – The Bobcats will get back in the pool Friday morning for day three of their inaugural conference meet. There will be two sessions Friday with the first beginning at 10 a.m. and the second beginning at 5 p.m. The late session will be streamed and can be watched HERE.
