KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams began their 2019-20 seasons with a strong showing at the Kingsport Invitational Friday afternoon. After one day of competition, the men's team is second among six schools, while the women's squad ranks fifth out of eight institutions.
"The meet went very well," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. "Today's session ended with the men's 800 free relay team taking second with a fantastic swim. The swim of the meet was Tommy Savage swimming a personal-best time in the 500 shaving 15 seconds off. I'm looking forward to the two sessions tomorrow."
In addition to the swims mentioned above, the Bobcats also had some other strong efforts on the day. The men's relay team made up of Christian Nishimura, Javier Sanchez, Tommy Savage and John David McCray also notched a second place finish in the 200 meter relay. Individually, Nishimura, who was making his Bobcat debut Friday, also placed second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.13. McCray also posted a third place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:52.53.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday morning for day two of the Kingsport Invitational. The action will begin at 10 a.m. from the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
