ASHEVILLE, N.C. --- The UNC Asheville men's tennis team swept doubles play and went 6-0 in singles action to record a 7-0 victory over Lees-McRae College in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon.
UNC Asheville's (6-3) duo of Matt Waissen and Jonas Brobeck opened doubles play with an 8-4 win over Lees-McRae's (1-4) pairing of Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.), before Adrien Langeard and Thomas Rees defeated Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo, Brazil) by a tally of 8-4 to clinch the doubles point for UNCA. Ryan Matthews and Pete Conaty recorded a 9-8 win over Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.).
Langeard held a 5-0 lead in the first set of the opening singles flight before Nunes retired, as Waissen notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Hayes at No. 2 singles. Brobeck defeated Warren, 7-6, 6-1, as Rees registered a 6-1, 6-3 win over Battle at No. 4 singles. Matthews defeated Tatai, 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth singles flight, as Will Goldberg capped the day with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Choi.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday, March 3 when the Bobcats host Lincoln Memorial University at noon.
