BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team swept doubles play, and won the first two singles flights en route to a 7-2 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas action on Friday afternoon.
Lees-McRae's (3-11, 3-6 CC) tandem of Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.) opened the day with an 8-2 win over Pfeiffer's (5-14, 2-7 CC) duo of Sebastian Wernecke and Orlando Castillo, as Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Ben Hunter and Luis Villalta, 8-3. Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) posted an 8-5 victory against Ethon Lyon and Diego Oliveira to give the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage after doubles play.
Nunes pushed the margin to 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Wernecke in the first singles flight, while Hayes swept Hunter, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 to clinch the victory for the Bobcats. Villalta got the Falcons on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Warren, before Battle defeated Oliveira, 6-3, 6-2. Tatai posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Castillo, as Lyon defeated Choi to close out the day.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday when the Bobcats host Belmont Abbey College in conference play. The Bobcats will honor their senior class prior to the start of the match at 12 p.m.
