NEWLAND, N.C. --- The Limestone College men's tennis team swept both singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 win over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon at Avery County High School.
Limestone's (13-7, 7-1 CC) duo of Carlos Yanes and Rafael Ferla opened the day with an 8-2 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-14, 0-10 CC) tandem of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil), before Lucas Guinski and Antoine Le Dore earned a hard-fought 8-6 win against Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.). Daniel Lopez and Austin McAlister defeated Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.) and Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.), 8-1, in the third flight.
Yanes kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Araujo, as Ferla clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Poplawski in the second flight. Guinski defeated Pinel, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Le Dore posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Choi. Benji Lascari Diaz won the fifth flight, 6-0, 6-0 against Artrip, as Lopez defeated Chivers, 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth matchup.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Tuesday when the Bobcats host NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University at Avery County High School in their regular season finale at 2:30 p.m.
