BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae men's tennis team gave King (Tenn.) fits all day, but fell 9-0 in a Conference Carolinas bout Tuesday afternoon at the King Tennis Complex in Bristol, Tenn.
The Tornado (6-7, 3-2 CC) has rebounded nicely after dropping their first two conference matches to win three straight. The Bobcats (3-7, 0-3) fell in three set thrillers at No. 3 and 4 singles.
Sophomore Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) dropped a tightly-contested contest at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil) forced a third set after dropping the first one 6-2. He claimed the middle set 7-5, but was bested by Luis Delgado 6-4 in the deciding one at No. 3 singles.
Newton, N.C., native, Hang Lak Choi suffered the same fate at No. 4 singles against Leo Brigato, 6-1, 5-7, 10-6.
No. 2 and 3 doubles were decided by an identical 8-6 score while Poplawski and Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) fell 8-4 in No. 1 doubles play.
The Bobcats play at home for the first time this spring when Mount Olive visits March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Lees-McRae Tennis Courts.
