Rusty Batten signs with LMC Men’s Tennis

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's tennis program announced the signing of Rusty Batten (Albemarle, N.C.) for the 2017-18 season Thursday afternoon. Batten joins fellow signee Matthew Meluch (Statesville, N.C.) as members of the incoming recruiting class for LMC Head Coach Don Marriott as he enters his third season.

"Rusty Batten's love for tennis and Lees-McRae College will be a great addition to our men's program," said Marriott. "His positive attitude and eagerness to improve will only make our current roster that much stronger. I look forward to watching Rusty grow as a player over the next four years."

Batten comes to Lees-McRae after a stellar prep career at Albemarle High School. Batten was not only a four-year all-conference player but he was also tabbed the conference's player of the year in 2016 after posting an undefeated singles record. In addition to those accomplishments, Batten has also reached the 1A Regionals on multiple occasions including a second place finish in 2016. The Albemarle, N.C. native also reached the semi-finals of the 1A State doubles tournament as a junior.
