Men’s Tennis preps for matches against West Virginia Wesleyan and Montreat

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team will be back in action this week with a pair of non-conference matches. First, the Bobcats will take on West Virginia Wesleyan in a neutral site contest at the Bristol Racquet Club in Bristol, Tennessee on Friday before traveling to Montreat College on Sunday. Friday's match has a start time of 1 p.m., while Sunday's tilt is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. first serve.

Last Time Out – Lees-McRae fell in its last match to Lee University last Sunday by a score of 5-2. The loss moved Lees-McRae's record to 4-3 on the 2019-20 campaign.

Starting a Streak Again – Prior to Sunday's loss to Lee, the Bobcats won their last three matches. It marks the second straight season that Lees-McRae has rattled of three consecutive victories. Before last season's winning streak, the last time the Bobcats won three straight was way back in 2012.

More Wins for Matt – A highlight for the Bobcats from Sunday was the play of junior Matt Meluch. Meluch teamed up with Fitzgerald Lomp to secure LMC's lone doubles win in the match, while also picking up a singles victory in the No. 5 position. During the spring season, Meluch has a combined record of 3-1 across singles and doubles action.

About the Opponents – West Virginia Wesleyan has played two matches this spring against Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial. The Bobcats have come away from those two matches with a 1-1 record after knocking off the Railsplitters 5-2 last Monday. West Virginia Wesleyan is coming a successful season in 2018-19 where it not only reached the NCAA Tournament but it also won a match against the University of Charleston.

Montreat, meanwhile, hasn't played a match yet this spring. The Cavaliers went 4-9 a season ago with wins over Pfeiffer, Johnson C. Smith, Brevard and Warren Wilson.
