Boone, NC--Lees-McRae College Men's Track and Field team got off to a good start Saturday in their first indoor meet of the 2006-2007 campaign at the Appalachian Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University, in the Holmes Convocation Center. The men opened their indoor season in Boone, NC, with good performances by several student-athletes.
Red-shirt junior Lewis Martin (Charlottesville, VA) finished 3rd in the mile and won the men's 3000m. Freshman thrower Joe Daher (Marietta, GA) set a personal best and school record with a throw of 44 feet 5 1/4 inches, good enough for 11th place in the shot put. Freshman vaulter Jonathan Arthur (Pine Level, NC) jumped 13 feet 5 and 3/4 inches for 8th place.
The Bobcat long jump contingency had a stellar day as four guys jumped over 20 feet. Leading the way was red-shirt Joseph Brown (Madison Heights, VA) with a jump of 20 feet 7 and 3/4 inches, good enough for 17th place. Also jumping well were Chris Glenn (Jonesville, SC), Adam Phillips (Spruce Pine, NC) and Michael Connor (Richmond Hill, GA).
There were several personal bests performances and two that stood out were Patrick Wooten in the shot put and James Norfleet in the 55 meter dash.
Bobcats are off until after Christmas break as they get ready for their indoor season to crank up in January.
