Winston-Salem, NC--The Lees-McRae College men's track team had several excellent performances on the first day of the Wake Forest Open on the campus of Wake Forest University. Leading the way for the men's team was sophomore Alan Bachman (Nanjemoy, MD). Bachman captured 6th place out of 98 competitors in the men's 400m dash. His time of 48.34 seconds set a new school record in the event and is just 0.34 seconds shy of the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard. Shortly after completing the 400m, Bachman competed in the men's 100m dash. His time of 10.93 seconds placed him 16th out of 81 competitors and qualified him for the final in that event to be run on Saturday at 1:50pm.
Another outstanding performance was submitted by senior Lewis Martin (Charlottesville, VA) in the men's 5,000m run. Martin finished in 8th place overall out of 89 competitors with a time of 14:53.77 minutes and is just a mere 8 seconds from reaching the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.
Sophomore Joe Daher (Mount Dora, FL) put the shot 13.11meters (43ft-1/4 in) to manage a 25th place finish in the men's shot put.
The Bobcat men's track team will compete in the second day of the Wake Forest Open on Saturday, March 22nd.
