NEW ORLEANS --- The Lees-McRae College men's track and field team sits atop this week's installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor Southeast Region poll, announced UTSFCCCA officials Tuesday.
Lees-McRae has enjoyed quite of bit of early success this season, recording 11 top-10 individual performances thus far while setting a pair of new school records. Sophomore Josh Oliver (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) posted a school-record performance of 6.75 seconds in the 55-meter dash competition at the ASU Track & Field Invitational on Dec. 4. Freshman Chris Turner (Clemson, S.C.) also set a program-record at the ASU Invitational, posting a mark of 1.93 meters in the high jump.
"Both teams have enjoyed quick starts to the season," said head coach Ley Fletcher. "The men's team has broken two indoor records, while the women have set three new marks. It is an honor to have a No. 1 ranking on the men's side and a No. 2 ranking on the women's side. This ranking is a reflection of the hard work and dedication our athletes have put into their sport, and they deserve all the credit."
Lees-McRae returns to action on Feb. 18 in Boone, N.C. at the ASU Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University.
