NEW ORLEANS --- Lees-McRae College sophomore Nazaire Saintine (Douglassville, Ga.) garnered United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year honors on Friday for the first time in his career, announced USTFCCCA officials.
Saintine and the Bobcats sat atop the Southeast Region poll throughout the Indoor season, as Saintine established three new program records this winter. The Douglassville, Ga. native established school marks of 2.03 meters in the high jump (first in the region), 7.03 meters in the long jump (second in the region), and 13.95 meters in the triple jump (second in the region).
The sophomore jumps and sprints specialist posted eight top-10 performances during the indoor season, all of which also placed him in the top five. Saintine enjoyed his best performance of the campaign in the Bobcats' season-opener at Appalachian State University's Indoor Track Meet on December 3. He established a pair of school records in the high jump (2.03 meters) and the long jump (7.03 meters), finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to action in the first meet of the outdoor season on Friday, March 3 when the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to take part in Lenoir-Rhyne University's Power Sox Invitational.
