BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's track and field team took the top two spots in the pole vault and finished second in the high jump to place fourth in the team standings day one of the 2012 Conference Carolinas Championships on Friday at the Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex.
King College tops the day one standings with 43 points, followed by Mount Olive College (33) and Limestone College (28). Lees-McRae is fourth with 27 points, followed by North Greenville University (16), Belmont Abbey College (4), and Barton College (1).
Kevin Dever (Leesburg, N.J.) won the pole vault with a mark of 4.40 meters, as Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) came in second with an identical mark of 4.40 meters. Nazaire Saintine (Douglassville, Ga.) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.93 meters, while Jordan Wilbur (Chesterfield, S.C.) turned in a season-best mark of 35.84 meters in the hammer throw en route to a sixth-place performance.
In the preliminary heats for Saturday's running finals, Richard Lane (Concord, N.C.) qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 11.27 seconds, as Travis Burton (Newberry, S.C.) qualified in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 49.95 seconds.
Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.) and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho) each qualified for the finals in the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:10.76 and 4:17.50, respectively. Bradley King (Hildebran, N.C.) also qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 56.92 seconds.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday on the final day of the Conference Carolinas Championships at the Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex. Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
