Webb takes second at Winston-Salem Street Vault

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Rising Lees-McRae College senior Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) has been hard at work this summer in preparation for next year's track and field season, posting a personal-best en route to a second-place finish in the Elite Division of the Winston-Salem Street Vault Competition on Saturday.

A native of Salisbury, N.C., Webb turned in the best outdoor vault of his career on Saturday, clearing 4.88 meters to finish tied for second in a highly competitive field.

"After five long months of rehab, all the pices finally fell into place," said Webb. "The reaction of the crowd at the meet makes all the hours we spend in the weight room and on the track by ourselves compleatly worth it."

Webb put together a strong junior season last year, becoming the third athlete in program history to qualify for indoor nationals after surpassing the provisionally qualifying mark in the first meet of the campaign. The 2013 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year steadily improved over the course of the season, topping out at a school-record height of 5.05 meters at the George Mason University Last Chance Meet.
