ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Senior Malcolm Peeler set a new school record in the triple jump while the Lees-McRae track & field teams amassed seven top-eight finishes at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational over the weekend in Rock Hill, S.C.
Peeler (Raleigh, N.C.) broke his own school record that he set last week at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. The senior finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.21 meters. His previous school record was 14.11 meters.
Sophomore Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) earned a top-five finish in the 800-meter run when he claimed fourth with a time of 2:03.37.
The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Gabriel Blackmon (College Park, Ga.), Tyree Reed (Phenix City, Ala.), Christian Parker (Richmond, Va.) and Matthew Darden (Columbus, N.C.) claimed fourth with a blistering time of 42.60 seconds.
The relay success continued in the 4x400 when Blackmon, Reed, Parker and Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) impressed with a third-place finish with a time of 3:22.62.
The Bobcats’ Blackmon and Parker finished seventh and eighth in the 400-meter run, respectively. Blackmon inched past his LMC teammate with a time of 49.67 seconds while Parker turned in a time of 49.68.
Sophomore Erin Bingham (Jefferson, N.C.) continued her career-long success in the 100-meter hurdles by finishing eighth with a mark of 14.99 seconds.
Coach Ley Fletcher’s squads will travel to High Point, N.C. to participate in the Verklasse Meet April 3-4.
