LMC Track & Field Grabs Three Wins; Impresses with 32 Top-10 Marks

HICKORY, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae track & field teams collected 32 top-10 finishes, including three victories at the Lenoir-Rhyne PowerSox Invitational Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track in Hickory, N.C.

Junior Christian Lloyd (Irmo, S.C.) carried his momentum from the indoor season by claiming the men’s pole vault title when he cleared a height of 4.40 meters.

Bobcat junior Tyler Pauley (Independence, Va.) impressed with a victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:02.80. He bested his closest competitor by 5.70 seconds. Pauley finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles after using a time of 1:10.01.

Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) won the 800-meter run with a solid time of 1:58.23.

Junior Joshua Godwin (Pleasant Grove, N.C.) made the most of his busy Saturday and finished in the top-seven in four events. His best mark was second in the javelin throw with a heave of 44.17 meters. He claimed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 35.75 meters.

Godwin grabbed a sixth-place finish in the discus (34.04 meters) and finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 11.39 meters.

LMC sophomore Tyree Reed (Phenix City, Ala.) earned three top-five finishes in the sprints discipline. Reed was second in the 400-meter dash with a sparkling time of 50.15 seconds before notching two fifth-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dash with times of 10.90 and 22.38 seconds, respectively.

Freshman Austin Thompson (Cleveland, Ga.) continued his impressive first-year campaign when he finished third in the 5000-meter run (16:22.37) and third in the 1500-meter run (4:20.68).

Senior Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) swiped third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.71 seconds.

Shawn Graves (Goshen, Ind.) placed eight in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:54.46 and claimed ninth in the 1500-meter run (4:29.09).

Junior Benjamin Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) earned a sixth-place finish in javelin with a throw of 39.17 meters. He earned ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:48.09.

Junior Erin Bingham (West Jefferson, N.C.) impressed in 100-meter hurdles by winning silver with a quick time of 15.01 seconds. She ended up sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.18) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.37).

Sophomore Jamie Colon (Acworth, Ga.) claimed sixth in the 5000-meter run, using a time of 21:34.10.

Bobcat’s Kayla Powell (Moyock, N.C.) produced a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 10.23 meters. She was good for seventh in the discus (31.27 meters) and eight in the hammer throw (30.45 meters).

Sophomore Mekayla Estep (Moravian Falls, N.C.) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.35) and seventh in 100-meter hurdles (16.69 seconds).

Sophomore Alexandria Flint (Blue Bell, Pa.) turned in the sixth-best time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.42.

In the women’s pole vault, Chloe Maddox (Helen, Ga.) was seventh at 2.25 meters while Jordan Brigman (Asheville, N.C.) was eighth at 2.10 meters.

LMC’s Najah Underwood (Hendersonville, N.C.) leapt to a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.45 meters.

Dual-athlete Kaitlyn Gearing (Sautee, Ga.) grabbed sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.97) while placing eighth in the javelin with a throw of 25.74 meters.

Teammate Jessica Hattabaugh (Hamilton, Mass.) finished ninth in the javelin with a distance of 24.81 meters.

The men’s team finished third out of 11 while amassing 87 points. The women finished sixth of 11 with 46 points.

The Bobcats travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to participate in the Adidas Winthrop Invitational March 25-26.
