HIGH POINT, N.C. – Freshman Jalen Martin has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Field Athlete of the Week by the league office. Martin is the first member of the men's track & field team to be honored with a player of the week award since April 1, 2015 when former Bobcat Malcolm Peeler earned the honor.
"We are very proud of Jalen," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher of Martin. "He has not only worked very hard to improve his long jump event, but has studied the event as well as he studies his subjects in the class room. This is a great honor for a freshman to receive this early in his athletic career. We look forward to watching Jalen's progress and expect more great things out of him in the future."
Martin posted the top finish of any Bobcat at last weekend's ETSU Invitational finishing 7th in the long jump with a leap of 6.72m. Martin also competed in 200m run and 60m dash in the meet finishing 19th and 26th, respectively.
Martin and the rest of the Bobcats will be back in action this weekend when they make the short trip to Boone, N.C. to compete in the Appalachian State Invitational. The invitational will take place from Jan. 19-20.
