BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs will lift the lid on the outdoor portion of their seasons this weekend at the 49er Classic in Charlotte. LMC will open the meet Friday before closing out the competition on Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
Indoor Rewind – Both the men's and women's teams finished seventh at last month's Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. Lees-McRae did notch five top five finishes at the event.
All-Region Recognition – Following the conference meet, sophomore Luke Rochester was named to the All-Southeast Region team by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the pole vault. The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.
Rochester had a breakout showing for the Bobcats during the indoor season notching a trio of top three finishes during the indoor campaign. The highlight for Rochester was finishing second in the pole vault at the league championship meet earlier this month with a career-best mark of 4.27m.
