Track and Field posts another solid weekend at the Benyon Sports Catamount Classic

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's and women's track and field teams put together another solid weekend on Apr. 12-13 at the Benyon Sports Catamount Classic, hosted by Division I Western Carolina University.

The teams participated in several field events on Friday (Apr. 12), before taking part in other field events and running events on Saturday (Apr. 13). Several Bobcats were able to finish ahead of Division I competition in their events.

Men on Day One - Cooper Abernathy and Blake Radder finished third and fourth respectively in the javelin throw, with Abernathy logging a throw of 41.88 meters and Radder notching a distance of 41.36 meters.  Abernathy would also finish 10th in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.14 meters, while Radder would finish 15th in the event with a mark of 32.55 meters.

Women on Day One - Bayle Wood led the women in the hammer throw with a ninth-place finish and a throw of 40.02 meters, while Mya Roberts also finished 14th with a throw of 33.14 meters. Millie McCoy finished 14th in the long jump with a distance of 4.82 meters. Wood also notched a third-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.23 meters as the lone Bobcat in the event. Madison Cantrell would log a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 2.85 meters as the lone Bobcat in the event.

Men on Day Two - Abernathy would log another 10th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.55 meters, while Radder would finish 23rd with a throw of 10.22 meters. Abernathy would finish sixth in the discus with a throw of 39.20 meters, while Radder would finish 23rd with a mark of 26.71 meters. Keith Holmes Jr. also finished 12th in the high jump at 1.70 meters. The foursome of Jason Saintizaire, Kerry Richardson, Holmes finished sixth in the 4x100-meter relay in 45.04 seconds. Tristin Bertie finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:11.39, while Aiden Hall (4:27.72) and Brett Page (4:45.81) finished back-to-back in 14th and 15th respectively. Dylan Williams posted a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 53.21 seconds. Logan Styers also posted a 28th-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.72 seconds. Joshua Hall finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:58.27, while Andrew Garrett Ybarra finished right behind him in eighth (1:59.22) and Anton Ledell finished 10th in 2:00.02. Richardson posted a 17th-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 23.61 seconds, while Williams finished right behind him in 18th (23.62 seconds). Saintizaire (23.87 seconds) and Holmes (24.10 seconds) finished 20th and 21st respectively in the event. Nolan Capps would finish sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:00.12 as the lone Bobcat in the event. The quartet of Richardson, Ledell, Joshua Hall and Ybarra also finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:33.25.

Women on Day Two - Wood notched yet another top-10 finish in the discus throw with a seventh-place finish (37.74), while Sariah Dempaire-Salomon finished 10th with a throw of 35.27 meters. Halie Thompson also finished 13th in the event with a mark of 32.91 meters. Mikali Smith finished tied for 11th in the high jump at 1.35 meters, while Jessica Reeves finished 13th at 1.30 meters. Dempaire-Salomon would finish eighth in the shot put with a mark of 10.33 meters, while Wood finished 13th with a throw of 8.78 meters. Brianne Heard finished 13th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:30.64, while Sarah Bowman also finished 17th in 5:36.07. Maegan Prettyman also finished 18th in the event in 5:49.01, while Katherine Sandoval finished 21st in 5:58.50 and Delaney Colangelo finished 22nd in 6:04.17. Bowman posted a 15th-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:41.10, while Sandoval finished 18th in 2:56.11. Colangelo finished 19th in 2:56.12, while Kaela Kelly finished 20th in 2:57.43. Britney Augustin finished third in the 200-meter dash in 25.24 seconds, missing a school outdoor record in the event by three tenths of a second. McCoy also finished 20th in the event in 27.60 seconds. The team of Augustin, McCoy, Heard and Bowman also finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:20.82.

Up Next - The Bobcats are back in action on Apr. 26 and 27 at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be hosted by Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
