The Lees-McRae Bobcats volleyball team kicked off its three game Missouri road swing with a match against Missouri Baptist Friday evening, falling in three games, 28-30, 28-30, 32-34. Missouri Baptist entered the contest as the fifth ranked team in NAIA men's volleyball.
With each game separated by two points, it was evident that the Bobcats showed no sign of fear in their match up against the nationally ranked Spartans. The Bobcats held leads in each game, but were unable to finish when it counted, falling to 1-2 on the season.
Freshman Grant Cassell continues to adapt to the collegiate ranks, leading the Bobcats with 15 kills with a .600 hitting percentage. The senior duo of Justin Harris and Justin Wozniel each contributed 13 kills, while Harris, (pictured top left), added three solo blocks and a pair of block assists, and Wozniel 15 digs. Marko Jovanovic also picked up three solo blocks and a pair of block assists while Stephen McDaniel contributed 11 digs and a pair of service aces. Senior Elias Valentin led the team in digs with 20 and classmate Luis Lazaballet had a team high 38 assists.
The Bobcats will be back in action for two games Saturday,
facing Peru State and Missouri Valley. Missouri Valley will enter
the game as the fourth ranked team in the NAIA. The games are
slated for 11:00am and 2:00pm central standard time.
