Quincy, IL--In their third road match in as many days the Lees-McRae men's volleyball team forced Quincy University's team to five games before falling 3-2 (24-30, 30-18, 26-30, 30-22, 9-15). The Hawks record stands at 4-3 while the Bobcats drop to 0-3 on the season.
In a close contest, Quincy took game one from the Bobcats by hitting .286 over LMC's .184, winning 24-30.
In game two, however, it was the Bobcats who exploded onto the scene hitting .481 against the Hawks .031 to tie the match 1-1 with their 30-18 victory. Freshmen Colin Kelly (Orlando, FL) and Shane Holderby (Virginia Beach, FL) led the way with four kills apiece.
The Hawks rallied back in the third game of the day serving up seven aces to edge out the Bobcats in a more evenly matched 30-26 contest.
The Bobcats fought back in game four with Josh Shea (Las Vegas, NV) setting up Kelly for seven kills and Holderby for another six. A combination of good defense and an aggressive offense (.455 hitting) allowed the young squad to capture game four 30-22 to tie the match.
Game five saw Quincy jump out to an early 5-1 lead, a lead which they maintained to a 15-9 end when they clinched the match win.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was Josh Shea who added two kills, a block solo, six block assists to his 57 assists for the contest. Kelly pitched in a game-high 24 kills, nine digs and two block assists while Holderby had 19 kills and 10 digs for the night.
The Hawks were led by Robbie Coughlin's (Chicago Ridge, IL) 15 kills while teammate Shawn Brannick (Minooka, IL) added another 14 kills and seven digs.
The Bobcats will resume play on February 1 when they host Mt. Olive College. The match is set to begin at 7:00pm.
