BANNER ELK, N.C. - Chad Mercado sported an impressive .476 hitting percentage on a team high 11 kills in 21 attempts with only one error to boost the Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-24) win over the Warner University Royals Friday night in Williams Gymnasium on day one of the Lees-McRae Mountain Classic.
Mercado's 11 kills also tied him for a game high in kills with three Royals members: Hector Rolle, Shedrick Forbes and Matt Gizzi. His .476 hitting percentage was a game high.
Colin Kelly added nine kills for the Bobcats and three other Bobcats tied with six kills: Robert Ritchie, Jeff Black and Ryan Black. Ritchie had a .417 hitting percentage with six kills on 12 attempts and only one error. Ryan Black led the team with two and half total blocks. Juan Ramirez dished out 32 assists and recorded two service aces.
With the win, Lees-McRae improves to 3-1 on the season, while Warner falls to 6-4.
Lees-McRae will play Missouri Valley on day two of the tournament Saturday at 7 p.m.
