Bobcats surge in NCAA statistics rankings

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team is listed in 13 individual and team categories in the latest edition of the NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball statistics, announced NCAA officials on Monday.

Lees-McRae (14-7, 4-1 Conference Carolinas) is on a tear of late, entering the week having won six straight and 10 of its last 11 matches. The Bobcats begin the week ranked fourth in the nation in aces per set (1.58), eighth in winning percentage (0.667), 13th in hitting percentage (0.286), and 17th in digs per frame (8.23). Lees-McRae is also listed 21st in assists per set (11.37) and kills per frame (12.12), while being ranked 25th in blocks per set (2.07).

Senior Chad Mercado (Orlando, Fla.) continues to be ranked among the nation's best hitters, entering the week listed third in kills per set (4.69) and 18th in hitting percentage (0.333). The burly opposite is also listed 43rd in digs per set (1.67) and 66th in aces per frame (0.22). Freshman setter Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) also enters the week ranked 14th in assists per set (10.3) and 31st in aces per set (0.3).

Fellow freshmen Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio) and John Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) are ranked 46th (0.84) and 49th (0.83), respectively, in blocks per set, as Lucas is also listed 37th in aces per frame (0.28). Rookie Chris Flood (Louisville, Ky.) is also ranked 83rd in aces per set (0.19).

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday, Mar. 25 when the Bobcats travel to Fairfax, Va. to take on George Mason University at 7 p.m.
