HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team is tabbed to finish fourth in the race for the 2013 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, announced league officials Wednesday.
Lees-McRae is primed for a strong season under the direction of third-year head coach James Goodridge, returning all six starters from last spring's squad which posted an 11-10 overall record and a 5-5- mark in league play. Juniors John Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio) return to lead the Bobcats, a season removed from pacing the squad with a combined 4.71 kills per set.
Mount Olive College has been picked as the favorite to take home the title, receiving four first-place votes and 60 points; Pfeiffer University is second with 55 points and three first-place votes followed by Limestone College with 53 points and two first-place votes. Lees-McRae is fourth with 42 points, followed by King College (40), Belmont Abbey College (22), Coker College (21), Barton College (17), and Erskine College (14).
Lees-McRae is slated to open the 2013 season on Saturday, January 19 when the Bobcats travel to Gaffney, S.C. to kick off their regular season and Conference Carolinas schedule against Limestone at 1 p.m.
